I was beyond excited when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was first announced. When the show finally premiered, I was disappointed. Aside from Agent Phil Coulson, I really wasn’t drawn to any of the characters. The show was dull, and featured far to many Avengers name drops, for the sole purpose of pandering to the audience, but having no real consequence. I stopped watching the show, and then it was announced that Sif, from the Thor comic books and films would be making an appearance, once again played by Jamie Alexander. I enjoyed that episode, so I decided to give the show another try. What I saw was intriguing. Suddenly, the character of Skye, played by the beautiful Chloe Bennet, had an interesting background and twist to her story. The show began to peel back the veil of secrecy surrounding the return of Agent Coulson. Really cementing its improved status, are the tie-in episodes with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The show kept using the tagline, #ItsAllConnected, and they weren’t kidding. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is turning into the show most fans thought it might be. So it is good news that ABC has renewed the show for a second season. Here’s hoping the uptick in quality can continue.
ABC has decided to continue to show Marvel the live action television love, by picking up Agent Carter to series. The series is described as follows; “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.” To me, this is great news. Agent Carter was the best part about “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Furthermore, the Agent Carter short film that appeared on the Iron-Man 3 special features, was the only worthwhile reason to own “Iron-Man 3.” Agent Carter as played wonderfully by Hayley Atwell is quite possible the strongest written and fully formed female character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All this coupled with the fact that the show will be a period piece, has me really looking forward to “Marvel’s Agent Carter.”
